GV Hospice is fortunate to have the support of volunteers to support our service, clients, families and our community.
We acknowledge that palliative care can be a difficult and emotionally challenging space to volunteer and we offer palliative care training, ongoing support and mentoring.
Opportunity Shop Volunteers
Opportunity shop volunteers work 3 hour shifts (10am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm) Monday to Friday (except public holidays) and 4 hours on Saturday (10am to 2pm). There is work in the shop as retail assistants, in the area of sorting and pricing and collecting and delivering furniture.
Our Op Shop volunteers are a close knit team who enjoy their work and directly giving back to the community. They are supported by a small team of dedicated staff who are rostered every shift.

Client Care Volunteers
Companionship and social engagement are key reasons for the uptake of a volunteer. As people with life limiting illnesses progress they find their social world decreases in size. Carers also become tired or less willing to leave their loved one to run an errand or attend their own wellbeing activities due to concern for their loved ones safety.
This is when a Client Care volunteer can step in to assist.
Client Care volunteers can visit clients in their homes, this may happen as often as once a week for an hour up to 3 hours a week. They can also assist with shopping, appointments and outings.
Our volunteers are not able to carry out any personal tasks such as toileting, showering or giving medication. They do not undertake yard duties or household chores.
Client Care Volunteers undertake in house training (content approved by Palliative Care Victoria) over a series of evenings. They also have regular meetings for peer support. Committee of Management
A voluntary Committee of Management has overseen GV Hospice for 35 years. Made up of passionate community members the Committee provides governance to the organisation. As a not-for-profit incorporated association GV Hospice elects its committee at the Annual General Meeting held in November each year.

GV Hospice relies heavily on the generosity of the community and wonderful donors.
Although we receive some funding form the State Government through the Department of Health, it does not allow the organisation to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, nor to supply the free equipment loans. We rely on donations and income from the Op Shop to maintain our high standards.
Friends of Hospice
The Friends of Hospice compromise members of the community who conduct regular fundraising activities including the well-known Tea and Harmony event. These long standing supporters have been in operation since 1992.
Car Rallye
The Goulburn Valley Care Rallye is conducted annually by a dedicated group of volunteers. The event takes place on the first weekend of May each year with information provided closer to the event. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in vehicles of all shapes and sizes, new and old and purchase tickets for the raffle.
