Become a Volunteer.

GV Hospice Care welcomes, encourages and supports the participation of many volunteers (in a variety of capacities) to enhance the provision of palliative care services in the City of Greater Shepparton. Volunteer activities do not replace work that would otherwise be paid work of the Service. The Service has distinct groups of volunteers including:

Committee of Management

The Committee of Management is elected from the members of the Association in accordance with the Rules of the Incorporated Association. Members of the community offer additional expertise and advice to the Committee when requested.

Patient Care Volunteers

The involvement of volunteers to assist in patient care and support is an integral part of service provision. Patient Care Volunteers are recruited, selected, trained, and supported by the Coordinator of Volunteers with the assistance from the Services health care professionals. Patient Care Volunteers receive a position description and Volunteer Participation Guidelines. Coordinated education and training is provided throughout the volunteering time. Each Volunteer participates in a Patient Volunteer Training Program, delivered over several weeks. A strong affiliation with Palliative Care Victoria ensures a comprehensive training program is provided.

A Patient Volunteer Information Package is available on request from the Coordinator of Volunteers, Ph. (03) 5822 0068.

Opportunity Shop Volunteers

The Opportunity Shop Volunteers are recruited from the Community via existing volunteers, staff and advertising. They are coordinated, orientated to their role, and supported by paid staff. A designated member of the Committee of Management and Executive Manager also support and manage Opportunity Shop volunteers.

New Volunteers are always welcome, and all enquiries should be directed the Opportunity Shop Team Leader, by phoning the shop on (03) 5831 6448.

Fundraising and Other Volunteers

A number of fund raising and support activities require the participation of volunteers either individuals or Service Club members.
These include:

  • Friends of Hospice
  • Fruit Loop Bike Ride
  • Car Rallye
  • Baking from the Heart
